This Modern Slavery Statement is made by Canary Wharf Cleaner in respect of the financial year ending 31 December and sets out the steps we are taking to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business operations and supply chains. We recognise our responsibility to uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct and to ensure that the services we provide are free from exploitation.
Canary Wharf Cleaner provides professional cleaning and related facilities services to commercial clients, including offices, retail premises and shared areas. Our workforce is a combination of directly employed staff and vetted agency workers. Our supply chain includes providers of cleaning products and equipment, uniform suppliers, recruitment and labour agencies, and various subcontracted service providers.
We understand that risks of modern slavery can arise in labour-intensive sectors, in the sourcing of cleaning products and in the use of third-party labour providers. We are therefore committed to careful selection, monitoring and engagement with all suppliers and partners to minimise these risks.
We operate a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, forced labour, servitude, debt bondage and human trafficking. This policy applies to all employees, agency workers, contractors, and suppliers who provide goods or services to Canary Wharf Cleaner. We expect our partners to share and uphold this commitment through their own practices and policies.
Any breach or suspected breach of our zero-tolerance policy is treated as a serious matter that may result in termination of contracts, removal from our supply chain and, where appropriate, reporting to relevant authorities.
We carry out due diligence on new suppliers and review existing suppliers on an ongoing basis. Our onboarding process assesses suppliers for their approach to labour rights, working conditions, and compliance with applicable laws relating to modern slavery and human trafficking.
We reserve the right to conduct audits and inspections of suppliers, either announced or unannounced, to evaluate working conditions, worker documentation, recruitment practices and wage records. Where risks are identified, we may agree corrective action plans with time-bound improvements or, if necessary, discontinue the relationship. High-risk suppliers are subject to more frequent assessments and closer scrutiny.
Canary Wharf Cleaner encourages all employees, workers, contractors and suppliers to report concerns relating to modern slavery, human trafficking or any unethical treatment of workers. We provide clear internal channels for raising concerns, including through line managers and designated senior contacts. Reports can be made confidentially and can cover suspicions, observed behaviour or information from third parties.
We are committed to protecting anyone who raises a concern in good faith. Retaliation, victimisation or disadvantage against individuals who report possible modern slavery is strictly prohibited and will be treated as a disciplinary matter. All reports are investigated promptly, and appropriate remedial actions are taken where issues are substantiated.
We provide training and guidance to relevant employees, particularly those involved in procurement, recruitment and contract management, to help them identify signs of modern slavery and to understand how to respond to concerns. This includes information on risk indicators, high-risk sectors and practical steps for escalation.
Awareness of modern slavery is promoted throughout the organisation so that all staff understand our expectations, our zero-tolerance stance and the importance of speaking up if anything appears wrong.
Responsibility for oversight of our modern slavery approach sits with the senior management team, which reviews key risks, reported incidents and the effectiveness of our controls. We monitor our supply chain practices, audit outcomes and training completion to ensure continuous improvement.
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed annually, or more frequently if required by changes in legislation or our business activities. The review considers the effectiveness of our policies, due diligence processes, supplier engagement and reporting mechanisms. Where opportunities for improvement are identified, we implement updated procedures and communicate these to relevant staff and suppliers.
This Statement has been approved by the leadership of Canary Wharf Cleaner and reflects our ongoing commitment to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in all aspects of our operations.
